Relationship vs. 11

The father’s legacy of his sons. (His legacy being revealed)

Request (Entitled) vs. 12

The (Youngest) sons’ entitled request
The Younger son had no intentions of returning home. (Give me my inheritance and I’ll see you when I see you). What he asked for he wasn’t entitled to as youngest.
Property that changes ownership to a descendant (especially to a firstborn male) upon the death of a parent (usually the father). Also: Heirloom; Inherit; Legacy
The Younger Son wanted to completely disconnect his relationship with the Father and family.
He had no plans other than living according to his desires (The Flesh).
The Father’s willingness to grant his request, while knowing His sons’ mentality.

Reckless Behavior vs. 13

Ignorance unleashed. (The fulfillment of the flesh

16 because everything that is in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance of material possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world.
The son perverted his inheritance to his own detriment.

Repentance vs. 17-19 (Ref. 2 Corinthians 7:10)

10 For grief according to the will of God brings about a repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted, but worldly grief brings about death.

Return Home vs. 20

Walking in shame
Walking in brokenness
Walking and willing to surrender his sonship to become a religious being versus living as a son in a loving relationship. (Authority, State, Standing, Relationship)
Walking in his ignorance not understanding his father’s love.
Walking in his subjective reasoning (emotional feelings of failure/defeat).

Restoration of The Father vs. 22-24

Covered the Shame of the son (Robe)
Gave him Authority (Ring)
Gave him Significance (Shoes)
He affirmed his fellowship regardless of the son’s past failures.
The son’s shame made him want to renounce his sonship.
The son was willing to become religious vs. having a relationship with the father because of his shame.
The son didn’t understand the depth of the Father’s love for him.
The Father celebrated the son’s return (Feast)
